Beginners Guide

Wondering how to use this site??? You came at the right place.

Get the most of this site by using these simple details :

1. Registration :

Registration to this site is free and simple. Just click on Register Link on left side of the page.

Fill up the required fields like

 

  • Name - Please enter you FULL Name (Maiden Name if applicable). Eg: Sandeep Manjunath Hegde
  • e-Mail - Please enter a valid email address. Your registration needs to be confirmed with a  mail sent to this address. Eg: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
  • Username - This name be displayed in site site instead of your real name to protect your privacy. Eg: sandy
  • Password - Please choose a secure password with atleast 6 characters
  • Branch - Enter the branch you studied in GIT. Eg: Mechanical Engineering
  • Year of passing -  Enter the year you passed out from college. Eg: 1988
  • Current profile - Enter details of your job, company, college(If perusing higher  education)
  • Address - Please enter your permanent address with pin codes.
Once you have submitted your form an confirmation e-mail will be sent to your email ID automatically. Confirm your email address by clicking on the link given in it.
 
Your application will be processed by website administration team , validating the geniuses of the details entered and you will be accepted or rejected accordingly.
Please wait  some days  till your application will be processed. 
 
Once you are approved to the site you have access to all the site features.
 
 
 
2. Profile & Connections :
 
Each time you login a link to your profile will be shown in place of login box. You get all the details related to your profile and you can modify it anytime.
On the top part there are two options
  • Edit : Here you can modify your details.
  - Update Your profile
- Forum settings : you can customise the view for Discussion Forum.
- Portrait : You can change your profile image.
- Contact Info : You can update you contact info
- Newsletter : By default you will be subscribed to a newsletter i.e you will recieve mails from collge from time to time. You can opt out of it by unchecking a box at this   location. 
- Update your image : You can change your profile image.
- Remove image : Here you can delete your profile image
 
  • Connections : You can maintain  a connection with other registered users on the site. Its similar to Contact Book or Friend list.
- manage your connections : You can manage your connections or an pending connection request.
- Manage actions : You can accept or deny a pending connection request with you.
- Manage connections :You can edit or remove your connections. You can view thier profile or send an direct email to them.
 
Public View : Others can see the following details when they visit to your profile :

Photo :Your professional photo allows the people you’ve met and previously worked with to quickly identify you. Many people find it far easier to remember a face than a name— photos help bring that comfort to alumni portal.

Your profile will also contains details like
  • Hits : No. of visits to your profile 
  • Online status : Offline or Online
  • Member Since : This is your age on this site !
  • Last Online : This will display the time you were online for last time.
  • Last Updated : This will display the time you when you updated your profile for last time.
  • Connections : It will display the no. opeople connected to you.
  • Forum Ranking : An automatic ranking system depending on your activities on discussion forum.
  • Total posts : This will display the no. of posts on the discussion forum.
  • Contact Info : Currently only Branch, year of passing and current profile are visible.
  • Articles : Displays no. of articles you have contributed to the site.
  • Forum : This will display your posts on forum
  • Connections : the people with whom you have an connection.
 
3. Menu :
 
All the menus options are available on top on every page you visit making the navigation easier.
  • News : This page will help you to be updated with the latest news. You can contact site administrators either through their profile or through contact us page to submit your news.
  • Chapters : This will contains the details of Alumni chapters worldwide.
  • Events : This will provide the information of all the events related to college or alumni. If any of alumni want their event to be displayed her can contact the site administrator.
  • Discussions : This is place for interaction of all the members. You can discuss on various topics. Currently the forum is organised into
- General :
- Read this first : Forum behavioural guidelines, rules of posting and conduct, etc.
- News & Announcements : Stay updated with the latest forum news and announcements.
- Welcome Centre : Nervous about using forums? Try a test post here, maybe by saying hello and introducing urself, or ask any questions about using these forums…
- Feedback & Suggestions : Share your feedbacks & suggestions and/or report problems here. 
- Help Desk : Always to help you.

- Re-union :  A reunion for old GIT Boys and GIT Girls here..
- Looking for : Post a message here to search for old batch mates and friends …
- Memories : This is the place where you care share your memories of college days.
- My Experience : This is the place where you care share your memories of college days.
- GIT Connections : Discover inside connections when you’re looking for a job or new business opportunity.

- Laugh Factory : Laughter is the best medicine. Share your jokes, fun and other internet pearls here. Some jokes are naughty, some are nice so be forewarned.

- Junk : The place where all useless, political and utter spam posts end up.

  • Recent Discussions : Displays all the recent discussions.
  • My discussions : The discussions started by you.
  • Categories : Main categories list
  • My profile : Your forum profile ( Different from main profile )
  • Rules : Forum rules page.
  • Help : Help section
  • Search : Search only for discussion forum content excluding other site content.
 
 
  • Groups : You can visit groups, join groups or create your own.
  • Chat : Exclusive GIT Alumni Chat Room. this menu is visible only when you registered and highly moderated with flood control.
  • Gallery : Gallery includes photos and videos . If you have some photos and videos which can be included please feel free to contact the site admin.
  • MailBox : An internal mail system. 
- Inbox : Incoming Mails. 
- OutBox : Outgoing mails will be stored here. 
- TrashCan : Deleted mails.
- Contacts : Your contact  book.
- Compose : Compose a new mail. 
  • Contact us : Feel free to contact us for any of your needs.
4. Search : Type in your query and press enter to get the content you are searching on a easy way
 
5. Tell a friend :  This is an easiest way to invite your friends to this site. Please tell all you friends about this website , the place where all alumni get under one roof.
         Its very simple with a small pop up box within the site.
 - Mail : You can just login into major email service providers and invite people.
 - Blog : You can just login into major blogging media and invite people. 
 - IM : You can just login into major IMs and invite people. 
 - Social networks : You can just login into major networking sitess and invite people. 
 
6. External Links : Related links to college related site are provided.
 
7. Who's Online :  All online users will be displayed with names in an order. You can visit thier profile by clicking on their names and get connected.
